Celebrating World Homeopathy Awareness Week 2010

7. April 2010, 17:12 | by There's a remedy for that

World Homeopathy Awareness Week (WHAW) is celebrated in more than 45 countries around the world. The dates for this year’s WHAW celebrations are April 10-16, 2010. This year’s observations are also dedicated to the 255th anniversary of the birth of Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy. The 2010 theme is “Mental Well-being: Body and mind in balance”. Homeopathic remedies boost resistance and immunity, and provide one of the most effective modern-day treatments of mental and emotional disorders.

World Homeopathy Awareness Week is sponsored by World Homeopathy Awareness Organization (WHAO), a non-profit volunteer organisation incorporated in the Netherlands. The first WHAW took place in 2005. Participating countries include the USA, South Africa, Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, Hungary, Israel, Kenya, Pakistan, Serbia, Spain, Ireland, Nepal, Australia, Bosnia, Denmark, Greece, India, Lithuania, New Zealand, Slovakia, Egypt, Bangladesh, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, Romania, and Brazil.

What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a natural system of medicine that uses minute doses of ingredients from plants, minerals and other natural substances to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms. Homeopathy treats the individual as a whole, rather than focusing on a specific disease or disorder, and recognises that body and mind cannot be separated. Homeopathy strives to restore balance on a mental, emotional, spiritual and physical level.

Increasing numbers of people all over the world are turning to homeopathy as a safe, gentle and effective system of medicine. In addition, many parents are becoming more and more aware of and concerned about the side effects of conventional medicines, many of which act by suppressing or masking a person’s symptoms, rather than addressing the underlying cause of the disorder or dis-ease. By strengthening our own natural self-healing forces, homeopathy helps to bring balance and order to the body and mind. Homeopathic remedies can be safely used by pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, infants, the elderly and even animals.

Homeopathy is a popular system of medicine in Great Britain, and has been used to treat the Royal Family since the 1830s. Homeopathy is also widely prescribed by physicians in Europe and Asia, and has been practised in the United States for over 170 years. Although relatively new in South Africa, homeopathy is rapidly growing in popularity. Homeopathy offers a greener, safer, more effective way to improve your family’s health.
