‘The science of homeopathy is one of the fastest-growing complementary medicines available today.By triggering the body’s own self-healing abilities, homeopathic remedies are a safe and effective way to treat everyday ailments as well as acute and chronic symptoms of mind and body, and are winning more converts every day.’ – Dana Ullman (American homeopath and renowned author - www.homeopathic.com)
In the UK alone, some 20-million people choose complementary medicine every year – and many of them practise self-help with homeopathic medicine.
Most Europeans go to a homeopath as their first course of treatment and 20 percent of Scottish GPs currently practise this medicine. Indeed, homeopathy has recently become Europe’s fastest-growing form of alternative medicine. Three out of four Europeans know about homeopathy and of these, 29% use it for their own health care.
In Europe there are 54,000 specialised homeopathic medical doctors and practitioners and between 25% and 40% of all European health care practitioners prescribe homeopathy. Private European insurers cover homeopathic treatments and the World Health Organisation recommends them. A few years ago Spain took an initiative to incorporate homeopathy into its national health service. There are over 250,000 homeopaths in India, where homeopathy is the country’s primary system of medicine. In South Africa, increasing numbers of doctors are training in homeopathy.
Worldwide, there are many well-known advocates of homeopathic medicine including the British royal family, politicians and celebrities, and countless other eminent people like them.
Why do these people, who can afford the very best, choose to use relatively inexpensive homeopathic medicine? Because it works!

Homeopathic medicine has one main principle: it promotes the healing of the whole person, including mind and emotion. It is amazing how quickly a person will heal physically if their emotional healing is given priority. We know that words are energy or vibration and we should never underestimate the power of a kind word – which is the best catalyst for another’s healing. A person’s bedside manner and genuine concern for another is very powerful!
Homeopathic medicine is so effective because it gives priority to the ‘mind’ symptoms that accompany the physical ailments. Consider these well when choosing a remedy – they are important. If you or a loved one is obviously anxious, you should first find the best remedy for this emotional dis-ease, and then focus on the physical ailments! Go to the Remedies page for a list of common ailments from A-Z and the remedies that suit each, based on the symptoms.
It's never been plain sailing ...
The father of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann himself, found himself faced with stern opposition from colleagues and even more so from the apothecaries, who felt that he was undermining the foundations of their profession: since he was recommending the use of small doses and was against multiple prescriptions, this new medicine was perceived as a serious threat to their profits. He was also accused of dispensing his own medicines and administering them to his patients, which was illegal at the time. He was thus arrested in Leipzig in 1820, convicted, and forced to leave the city. He later obtained special permission from Grand Duke Ferdinand to practise homeopathy in Köthen, where he continued to work, write, and instruct his followers who were swiftly increasing in numbers and spreading their wings further afield. At his death in 1843, homeopathy was known in most European countries, as well as in the United States, Mexico, Cuba, and Russia, and not long after his death India and South America.
